Creatures fascinates me. Birds of Paradise, as of late, are obsessing me. From their costume like art deco plumage to the dramatics of their coupling, everything about these creatures captivate me.

The females only go with the male that has the best of everything, the best plumage, the best dance and the best performance space to do perform it on. While the males are polygamists, the females are monogamous and generally only lay one egg.

As Attenborough was describing, he went on to point out that after years and years of this pragmatic selection process, the species, as a whole, is getting progressively more beautiful with each generation. It might seem cruel to think that some that some will never find another to dance with, but I do admire the female’s determination to better the line by selecting their partner.

I wish that Disney would quit making ridiculous TV movies and do another hand drawn, Fantasia-esque epic with an orchestra, with a whole sequence on these birds. I would watch it for hours.
