absurd talent.

I was at Mercury (One of my favorite gift/deco/all things smelling delicious/ art stores in Austin, visit here http://www.mercurydesignstudio.com/ ) and was having a conversation on books, namely, the clothbound penguin books (they have ’em) and my current obsession with all things embroidered.. (see last entry…)

We got to talking about how great antique embroidery is, but also, how amazing new artists are… how could we not talk about Olympia Le Tan??

She is everything I love, high heels and old books, creating new with ancient knowhow, funny and gorgeous.

She makes these clutches that look like old classic books, completely stitched together..

and these round purses as well…

A tragic, sweet stop motion animation taking place in a bookshelf in the famous bookstore Shakespear and Company, unfolds the story of a clumsy skeleton and the love of his life, among her iconic book cover illustrations. There was over three thousand pieces, hand cut by Olympia, to create this.
